Woman tried to sneak across the border by hiding inside the wall of a minivan
US Customs officers arrested the driver of a minivan after they found a Mexican national wedged inside the wall of his vehicle when it was stopped at a border crossing near San Diego, California. The discovery is only the latest clever attempt by would-be immigrants to sneak into the country illegally at heavily-patrolled border checkpoints. The woman, who was not named, was being held at an immigration detention center until she testifies against the driver. After that, officials said, she will be deported. US Customs and Border Patrol officers noticed something was strange when they rapped on the rear driver-side panel of a 1993 Dodge Caravan as it tried to cross into the US from Mexico at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, Fox 5 San Diego reported. When the vehicle was sent for closer inspection, officials removed an inside panel and found the woman wedged in the wall Friday. The driver of the car, a 43-year-old from Vista, California, will face human smuggling charges. Customers officers discovered 11 other cases of attempted human smuggling this past weekend.
