Right-wing killer Anders Breivik jailed for 21 years for mass murder of 77 people
Norwegian right-wing fanatic Anders Behring Breivik was today sentenced to 21 years in jail for mass murder after he was declared sane. The militant extremist, who killed 77 people in a shooting and bombing spree last July, will now be sent to prison rather than a mental hospital. He had admitted to the murders and said he wanted to be declared sane so his actions were not written off as those of a madman. Breivik, who will serve a minimum of ten years in prison, considers himself a political prisoner after bombing the government’s headquarters in Oslo and opening fire at a youth camp on a nearby island. The 33-year-old killed eight people at the Norwegian government’s headquarters and shot dead 69 on the picturesque Utoya island, more than half of them teenagers. Wearing a dark suit and sporting a thin beard, the mass murderer smirked as he walked into the Oslo courtroom today and raised his fist in a fascist salute. His lawyers said before the decision that he would accept a prison sentence but appeal any insanity ruling. Daily Mail
