The Miami Heat won the first game of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series against the Indiana Pacers 95-86. LeBron James scored 32 points and pulled in 15 rebounds, while Dwyane Wade added 29 points. The two scored 22 of the Heat’s 25 fourth quarter points. James showed why NBA Commissioner David Stern presented him with his third MVP trophy before the game, scoring half his points in the fourth quarter.

The Miami Heat have apologized to New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire for a comment made Wednesday night by American Airlines Arena PA announcer Michael Baiamonte that poked fun at an injury Stoudemire suffered last week. When Stoudemire was charged with his sixth foul and ejected from Game 5 of the Heat-Knicks playoff series, Baiamonte announced to the crowd, “Offensive foul on the Knicks! On Amare Stoudemire! That’s his sixth! He has been extinguished from the game.” After Game 2 of the series, Stoudemire cut his hand open when he punched a glass fire extinguisher enclosure in the arena’s visitor locker room. The injury required multiple stitches and forced him to miss Game 3 of the series. The Heat issued the following statement on Thursday: “Last night at our game, our PA Announcer had a momentary lapse of judgment and used a poor choice of words in describing Amare Stoudemire’s fouling out of the game. This is not who we are as an organization or who he is as an announcer. Both the Miami Heat and Michael Baiamonte apologize to Amare and the New York Knicks for the inappropriate choice of words.” Not that Amare was totally innocent in the entire affair. Right before Baiamonte made the call, Stoudemire reached out his hand to help the Heat’s Shane Battier up, then quickly retracted it at the last second. He had been called for an offensive foul after knocking Battier to the ground. After the game, Stoudemire was asked about the call, but he laughed it off. Baiamonte, however, was privately reprimanded for the team.

A mother of two has told of how she breastfeeds her two sons who are aged three and five. Jamie Lynne Grumet, 26, has appeared on the cover of Time magazine breastfeeding her three-year-old Aram as he stands on a small seat to reach her. The Los Angeles mother has spoken about how she applies the same attachment parenting method to her adopted five-year-old son Samuel.  Ms Grumet was breastfed by her own mother until the age of six. In a larger feature story about the controversial parenting technique, she tells the magazine that she is able to recall memories of being latched onto her mother’s breast. She said: ‘It’s really warm. It’s like embracing your mother, like a hug. You feel comforted, nurtured and really, really loved. I had so much self-confidence as a child, and I know it’s from that.’ She has aimed to provide the same type of support to Samuel, who was adopted from Ethiopia in November of 2010. Samuel was breastfed by his new mother instantly. He is latched to her breast ‘maybe once a month.’ TIME

Vice President Joe Biden apologized to President Obama for endorsing same-sex marriage on “Meet the Press” on Sunday, putting pressure on his boss to formally weighed in on the issue days later. “The President has been the leader on this issue from day one and the Vice President never intended to distract from that,” Kendra Barkoff, Biden’s press secretary said in statement, NBC News reported. Biden spoke to the President in the Oval Office before Obama announced his support for same-sex marriage in an interview with ABC News. In that interview, he said he wasn’t angry with Biden, but he thought the vice president had gotten “a little bit over his skis” by publicly taking on the issue ahead of Obama. “Would I have preferred to have done this in my own way, in my own terms, without I think, there being a lot of notice to everybody? Rihanna finally did something that makes sense — she unfollowed Chris Brown on Twitter. According to Gossip Cop, the 24-year-old singer hit the unfollow button on her ex-boyfriend after he seemingly dissed her in his remix of Kanye West’s “Way Too Cold” (formerly “Theraflu”). On Wednesday Brown posted a remix of the song, in which he raps, “Don’t f–k with my old bitches/like a bad fur/every industry n—a done had her/trick or treat like a pumpkin/ just to smash her.” Not long after the remix hit the web, Rihanna stopped following the 23-year-old R&B singer on Twitter. Brown seems to get the message that Rihanna was seriously offended by his words, and in true Chris Brown fashion went on the defensive on Twitter: Assumptions! I didn’t say any names so if u took offense to it then its something you feel guilty about. The singer then unfollowed Rihanna from his Twitter. While it may sound like an insignificant exchange, there’s a long history that makes it so much more. After Brown’s brutal 2009 assault on Rihanna, which left her bruised and bloodied, many were outraged when the singer decided to follow him on Twitter again in 2011. Federal authorities said Wednesday that they plan to sue Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio and his office over allegations of civil rights violations, including the racial profiling of Latinos. The U.S. Justice Department has been seeking an agreement requiring Arpaio’s office to train officers in how to make constitutional traffic stops, collect data on people arrested in traffic stops and reach out to Latinos to assure them that the department is there to also protect them. Arpaio has denied the racial profiling allegations and has claimed that allowing a court monitor would mean that every policy decision would have to be cleared through an observer and would nullify his authority. DOJ officials told a lawyer for Arpaio on April 3 that the lawman’s refusal of a court-appointed monitor was a deal-breaker that would end settlement negotiations and result in a federal lawsuit. The “notice of intent to file civil action” came Wednesday from Assistant U.S. Attorney General Thomas Perez in a letter to an Arpaio lawyer. Perez, who heads the DOJ’s civil rights division, noted that it’s been more than 100 days since the sheriff’s office received the DOJ’s findings report and federal authorities haven’t met with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office counsel since Feb. 6 to discuss the terms of a consent agreement. At a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Arpaio defended himself in the face of the pending lawsuit. “If they sue, we’ll go to court. And then we’ll find out the real story,” he said. “There’s lots of miscommunication emanating from Washington. They broke off communications. “They’re telling me how to run my organization. I’d like to get this resolved, but I’m not going to give up my authority to the federal government. It’s as simple as that,” Arpaio added. HuffPost
