Spirit Airlines took a shot at the Secret Service prostitution scandal with a new Internet advertisement offering cheap flights to Colombia that promises ‘more bang for your buck.’ The ad offers flights to Cartegena, the city where 11 Secret Service agents brought as many as 20 hookers back to their hotel rooms before being recalled to Washington in disgrace, for fares ‘from only’ $19.80.  The ad’s graphic features a bevy of bikini-clad women and a man in a dark suit with sunglasses and an ear-piece. He’s pressing a finger to his lips, as if the promise that he won’t tell. The fine print reads: ‘Get more bang for you buck with flights to Cartengena and other great destinations! This sale is no secret with fares from $19.80 one way. Hurry and book now! Please note: Upfront payment is required!’ This isn’t a Spirit’s first brush with ads playing off current events.

Oreo has claimed its controversial breastfeeding baby advert was ‘never meant to go public’. Kraft Foods, the firm’s parent company, said the provocative picture of a child clenching a chocolate cookie while suckling on a woman’s breast was only supposed to be used once. The nipple-exposing promo was made by its Cheil Worldwide agency, it added, which was merely going to use it for an advertising forum. It also denied widely the reported allegations that it had been was running in publications across South Korea. The image, with the headline of ‘Milks Favourite Cookie’, has caused quite a storm, and seriously divided opinion, on online forums, blogs and Twitter.

This is the woman who threw the Secret Service into crisis when she fought with an agent who slept with her at a Colombian hotel but then refused to hand over the $800 they had agreed upon. According to the New York Daily News, images of the woman known only as ‘Dania’ show her posing for the camera. Her identity was revealed as the names of two of the Secret Service supervisors involved in the scandal came to light. David Chaney was allowed to retire over his alleged role in the incident, while Greg Stokes was ‘removed with cause’. Another agent resigned after being suspended as part of the investigation into the scandal. One of the three agents to have left the service so far apparently plans to sue the agency over his treatment in the aftermath of the prostitution scandal, which has made headlines around the world.
