Miami Beach joker yells ‘this is it!’ at ‘Dark Knight,’ sparks panic
Panicked moviegoers fled a packed Miami Beach screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” early Tuesday after a man wearing black gloves emerged from the back of the theater screaming, “This is it!” Three people wrestled suspect David Escamillo to the ground until about 30 cops arrived, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported. “I didn’t shoot anybody,” Escamillo, 44, told police, according to an affidavit. Police initially received a call at about 12:15 a.m. of several shots fired in the Regal South Beach theater, according to reports. Witnesses told cops Escamillo was walking up and down the stairs before getting into an altercation with another patron, according to NBC 6. He left the theater, but eventually returned to the back. That’s when he reportedly shouted to the crowd of about 140 people as the movie was coming to an end. No injuries were reported. Escamillo was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Police determined he had no weapon, but may have been drinking. He was being held on $8,000 bond in Miami-Dade County Jail. The frantic scene follows the deadly shooting at a ‘Dark Knight’ showing in Aurora, Colo., when alleged gunman James Holmes killed 12 people and wounded 58 others.
