Hey cheerleaders! Bad news! you do may be great — but it ain’t a sport! That’s official now after a judge in Hartford, Connecticut ruled that competitive cheerleading is not an official sport and ordered that Quinnipiac University will not be able use the activity to meet gender-equality requirements. Federal judge Stefan Underhill said competitive cheerleading is too underdeveloped to be considered a sport under Title IX. The ruling came on the heels of a lawsuit that was filed against Quinnipiac by volleyball players after the sport was shelved for budgetary reasons. Quinnipiac replaced the volleyball team with competitive cheerleading in order to adhere to a 1972 federal law that states that there needs to be equality in opportunities for men and women in athletics. School officials discussed creating a women’s rugby team after the ruling was announced. Or how about just bring back the volleyball team you idiots??! “A is for apple, D is for duck! Hey Judge Underhill, you really, really suck! Gooooo Team!” (AHN News)
