A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy is in trouble after he allegedly faked a car accident to get money back from a couple of concert tickets after his babysitter canceled on him at the last minute.

Shawn Barber, 43, is charged with insurance fraud and grand theft after filing false police reports in 2008. He is a 12-year veteran of BSO, but has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the trial. His former neighbor, Sharyn Iaboni, was also arrested for participating in the scam.

In March 2008, Iaboni bought four tickets for a Def Leppard concert at the Seminole Hard Rock and was ready to rock out when Barber’s babysitter that was supposed to watch the kids rained on their parade.

So instead of eating the $630 it cost for the tickets, Barber had the novel idea of risking his job by filing a fake accident report, which would have triggered the tickets’ insurance clause.

Now that’s a real fan.

Barber got his money back, but now he has some handcuffs to go along with it. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years behind bars.
