Michael Douglas Talks Parenting Regrets

Just before he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, Michael Douglas sat down with Men’s Journal (via the Daily News) for an interview in which he expressed regret over putting his career above fatherhood. Earlier this year Michael’s oldest son, Cameron, was sentenced to five years in prison for dealing meth. On his father, Kirk, now 93: “He was a rager early on. He was overworked. He was doing five-plus pictures a year. I just sort of stayed out of his way, but he did the best he could.”On repeating Kirk’s mistakes as a young father: “My career was really just getting started and that was my focus, maybe more than it should have been. I was gone more than I should have been.” On Cameron’s prison sentence: “I just want to talk to him about what he’s going to accomplish there besides working out and playing on the softball team. What tools is he going to be able to work on?” Michael, who recently completed his first of eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy, went on Letterman last week to talk about his treatment and prognosis.(HuffPost)

Kara DioGuardi Is Leaving ‘American Idol’

(AP) LOS ANGELES – Kara DioGuardi is following Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell out the door at “American Idol.” Her departure leaves Randy Jackson, who’s been with the singing contest from the start, the last judge standing, for now. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez are the reported front-runners for the panel. Entertainment mogul Simon Fuller, creator of the British show “Pop Idol” that was the template for the U.S. series he produces, called DioGuardi a standout songwriter whom he planned to work with in music “for many years to come.” DioGuardi, whose exit had been rumored, is a hit machine whose songs have been recorded by Gwen Stefani, Faith Hill, Marc Anthony and others, including past “Idol” winners. “I felt like I won the lottery when I joined `American Idol’ two years ago, but I feel like now is the best time to leave `Idol,’” DioGuardi said in a statement Friday, calling her experience as a judge on the show “amazing.” Her statement, issued by Fox, didn’t elaborate on her reasons for leaving. Her contract reportedly had a one-year option remaining that the network could have exercised.

Lady Gaga’s deathly diet

A new book claims Lady Gaga was hospitalised six times last year because of her extreme dieting. The singer’s former tour manager, David Ciemny, claims she would binge on junk food such as cakes and sweets, then not eat for weeks to fit into her costumes – once losing 9kgs between fittings for one of her outfits. Describing her condition, David says in Maureen Callahan’s new book Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga: “When I say she was sick, I mean physically and mentally.” Talent scout Wendy Starland added: “The pressure on her to lose weight was very high.” Also in the book, David’s wife Angela claims she used to accompany Gaga on tour alongside her husband, and the singer would cuddle up to her in bed before performances. She said: “I would say, ‘Gaga, I have a husband to go home to. I’ll be in the room next door.’” She’d call and text me, ‘I miss you, Ange, can you come back?’ So I would. “We literally would do our makeup together every morning and get ready for bed together at night.” Despite six hospital stints last year, the 24-year-old star’s health problems have continued into 2010, with her being forced to cancel four US shows in January because she was suffering from an irregular heartbeat, brought on by exhaustion. She also broke down in New Zealand in March and has recently tested “borderline positive” for Lupus, a tissue disease which killed her aunt. Gaga has previously admitted to being “insecure”, but claims she hides behind her onstage persona. She said: “When I wake up in the morning, I feel just like any other insecure 24-year-old girl. Then I say, ‘B***h, you’re Lady Gaga, you get up and walk the walk today.”(TheAge.com)

Kanye West apologizes to Taylor Swift via Twitter

One year after he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye West is still singing the blues. The hip-hop superstar wrote a lengthy apology to the country queen on Twitter over the weekend, saying his actions had nothing to do with race and claiming that he’s been treated like the Wicked Witch of the West. “She had no idea what hit her,” West, who rushed the stage to proclaim that Swift’s Best Female Video award should have gone to Beyoncé, tweeted Saturday. “She deserves the apology more than anyone.” West, 33, insists his actions that evening had nothing to do with skin color but everything to do with taking a stand. “I watched Justin Timberlake at the Grammies loose every televised award including album of the year which the Dixie Chicks won,” he wrote. “I would have ran on stage for Justin that night because Sexy Back (in my mind) was that important… that impactful to our culture. It’s not about race America.”(CNN)
