Now Lady Gaga is accused of copying Annie Lennox’s gender bender performance from 1984

Lady Gaga has once again been accused of copycat antics following last night’s performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. The 25-year-old pop star sang her track You And I as her male alter-ego, whom she has named Joe Calderone. She shocked the crowd, including Katy Perry and Justin Bieber, as she stepped out onto the dark, empty stage wearing a loose black suit and T-shirt with slicked-back dark hair with a lit cigarette. But many viewers, including Kelly Osbourne, felt the routine was all too familiar, accusing her of plagiarising Annie Lennox’s performance of Sweet Dreams at the Grammy Awards in 1984.

Rihanna’s father struck down by deadly tropical disease dengue fever

Rihanna’s father has been hospitalised after contracting a deadly tropical virus.57-year-old Ronald Fenty is now recovering at home after being struck down with dengue fever, a virus which kills thousands of people every year. The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes and ticks and while it is harmless for most people, some need to be treated intravenously for dehydration. Ronald fell ill just days after his superstar daughter came to visit the family in their native Barbados. The pair were estranged for a time over Ronald’s well-documented crack addiction but have now reconciled. And when the father of six was rushed to hospital he was treated in a ward where a doctor, who is a friend of Rihanna, insisted he call the 23-year-old singer. ‘I called her and she was worried,’ he said in a statement. ‘She said: “Daddy, what’s wrong with you?” I told her I’d be fine. I’m better now, the doctors just told me to take it easy for a few days and rest.’

Driver accidentally hands over a bag of drugs after police ask for her ID

A driver got herself arrested when a cop asked her for ID and she accidentally handed him a bag of marijuana along with her driver’s license. It led cops to find a whole trove of controlled medical drugs, including 57 oxycodone pills, seven methadone pills as well as smaller amounts of sedatives Valium and clonazepam. Danielle Rae Shockey, 27, was sitting in a car in the parking lot of a motel in Clearwater, Florida, at 3am when a police officer deemed it suspicious and decided to approach it. She told the cop she was talking to her boyfriend and considering renting a hotel room, according to the arrest report. But she did not help her case when she was asked for ID and made the crucial mistake. Shockey even tried to conceal the bag, according to the officer, but it was too late. The car was searched and she was arrested on marijuana possession and multiple felony counts of possession of a controlled substance. Shockey told the officer she smokes marijuana for medicinal reasons and the pills weren’t hers. Yeah..That’s what they all say!

‘Hurricane was message from God

Michele Bachmann has claimed that Hurricane Irene and last week’s earthquake in the eastern United States were messages from God to lawmakers in Washington. The Republican presidential candidate used the hurricane, which has killed at least 32 people and caused billions of pounds of damage, and the 5.8 earthquake, as signs of God’s anger at government policies. Speaking on Saturday, just as Irene was beginning its raking course up the East Coast, Mrs Bachmann told senior citizens in Poinciana, Florida: ‘Washington, DC, you’d think by now they’d get the message. An earthquake, a hurricane. Are you listening?

Polygamist paedophile Warren Jeffs ‘in a coma after going on hunger strike in solitary cell’

Jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs is in a coma in hospital after reportedly starving himself in his solitary cell. Jeffs, 55, who is serving a 130-year sentence for sexually assaulting two of his many under-age wives, had been refusing to eat properly for the past three days while behind bars and became so weak he dropped into a coma, sources said. The self-proclaimed prophet of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was earlier this month swiftly convicted by a jury after coldly using his position as religious leader and supposed spokesman for god to prey on his young congregants.

Dr. Phil tells Anthonys to ‘tell the truth’

America has been waiting to hear George and Cindy Anthony’s side of the story — and soon enough, we will. The couple will appear on the Sept. 12 premiere of “Dr. Phil” and in a promo clip released, the TV doc really grills the grieving grandparents, whose daughter Casey Anthony was acquitted last month for murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee. “I want you to answer my questions, tell the truth once and for all,” charges Dr. Phil in the teaser for the face-to-face interview. “America’s never heard of this explanation before. Why have you sat on this information?” McGraw is shown later asking, although it’s not clear if the question is directed at the Anthonys, who don’t speak in the 30-second clip, or if it’s in reference to Casey’s defense. During the opening arguments at her murder trial, the now-25-year-old’s lawyer dropped the bomb that Caylee had drowned in the family’s pool, but Casey was too afraid to admit it, so she made up the story that the child’s supposed nanny had kidnapped her.  Caylee’s badly decomposed body was discovered not far from the Anthony’s Orlando, Fla., home in December 2008, six months after she was last seen alive. Throughout the entire ordeal, George and Cindy had maintained their daughter’s innocence, especially Cindy. “There are millions of people who want to shake you awake,” Dr. Phil says to her in the promo. He then turns to George, whom Casey’s lawyer Jose Baez accused of molesting his daughter during opening statements. Baez also claimed that George was home at the time of Caylee’s drowning and that he helped his daughter cover it up. “You know the truth, don’t you?” Dr. Phil asks George, but it cuts off before he answers. The Anthonys have had no contact with their daughter since her release from prison.  Casey is currently back in Orlando, where she must serve a one-year probation for a charge separate from her daughter’s death.
