Amy Winehouse tops UK charts 8 days after death

Amy Winehouse’s album “Back To Black” has climbed back to top of the British album chart, eight days after the singer died in London. The Grammy award-winning album was also No. 1 in 2006 when it was released. Also on Sunday, Winehouse’s debut album “Frank” reached No. 5. Former New York Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu hanged himself after wife left home with daughters

Former New York Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu has been found dead at his California home, after committing suicide following the break up of his marriage. The body of Irabu, 42, who came to the club from Japan touted as a superstar, but left after a series of arguments and on the field disappointments, was reportedly found by a friend at 4:25pm yesterday. Police sources told TMZ that it appeared he had committed suicide by hanging himself. The player’s wife had left home with his two young daughters one month before the tragedy. Neighbour Mary Feuerlicht said a man came running down the driveway from Irabu’s large two-story home, perched atop a hill with views of downtown Los Angeles, pleading with her to call police. AP

Teen in Fatal HS Stabbing Was Choked

Marks on the neck of a student charged with fatally stabbing a classmate during a fight are consistent with someone being choked in an arm lock, a doctor testified during the teen’s trial on Thursday. Dr. John Marraccini, who is an autopsy expert, said the marks on 18-year-old Andy Rodriguez’s neck just after the 2009 incident prove that he was being held in a choke hold by Juan Carlos Rivera as the two fought in a courtyard at Coral Gables High School. Rodriguez’s attorneys have claimed the boy had no choice but to stab his way out. Jurors were shown photos of bruises on Rodriguez taken after the Sept. 14 fight.”What you see is consistent with Mr. Rodriguez being placed in an arm bar choke hold,” Marraccini said. “That’s why the defendant perceived himself as being choked.” Marriccini also said that the stabbing likely occurred on or near the ground, which goes against testimony by two other witnesses who claimed Rodriguez walked behind Rivera and stabbed the teen. Rodriguez is charged with second-degree murder. NBC Miami

Officials fear for infants born to prescription drug addicts

According to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, prescription drug overdose deaths in Florida are up a staggering 265% since 2003. But it’s not just the deaths that have Florida officials worried; it’s the births. “We saw the number of crack babies that died, and this is just another version of that,” Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti said. “We all need to be concerned.” According to state health records, 635 Florida babies were born addicted to prescription drugs in the first half of 2010 alone. South Florida doctors and intensive care nurses report an dramatic uptick in babies born hooked on pills that their mothers abused while pregnant. “They go through withdrawal symptoms,” said Mary Osuch, the head nurse at Broward General Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit. “They’re crampy, miserable. They sweat. They can have rapid breathing. Sometimes, they can even have seizures.” According to the White House Office on Drug Control Policy, prescription drug abuse is the nation’s fastest-growing drug problem. CNN
