Ordinance Would Require Food Trucks To Get Permits

North Miami commissioners are attempting to crack down on food trucks, which have been operating without city fees or permits. They have proposed an ordinance that would require food truck operators to obtain licenses and special permits, as well as pay a $167 annual fee, and a one-time $50 background check fee.The rising popularity of food trucks in the last few months has brought concerns to both residents and government officials. Last month, the Miami-Dade commission passed an ordinance for several parts of the county that required 80 percent of residents within 1,000 feet of a food truck round-up to approve the event before it can be held. That ruling didn’t affect the city of Miami or North Miami, because they are each governed by city law.North Miami commissioners will take up their new ordinance on the next meeting on July 12. Armed Thugs Hit Music Video Set

The Game‘s new music video shoot with Chris Brown got gangsta — for real — when a producer was held up at gunpoint … losing more than $12,000 in cash and jewelry … TMZ has learned. Law enforcement sources tell us the armed robbery went down Tuesday in South Los Angeles — and the producer was sitting in his car with another person when 2 black male suspects walked up, pulled out a gun and demanded the goods. They made off in a gray Nissan Altima. Sources on the music video shoot say the producer — named Mars — had walked about a block from the set when it happened. We’re told the suspects took his jewelry and his wallet … which was stuffed with a couple thousand bucks. Chris Brown and The Game were on set at the time of the robbery, but were not near Mars. A rep for Game said nobody on set saw the incident go down — and that everyone on set usually has security when they walk around. TMZ

World’s most expensive razor goes on sale for $100,000

The world’s most expensive razor has gone on sale for $100,000 (£62,460) – boasting two blades made out of sapphire. Researchers spent three years developing the Zafirro Iridium, which has a handle made of 99.9 per cent pure iridium – the most corrosion-resistant platinum metal, found only in meteorites. The two blades are made from white sapphire grown at a former Soviet Union lab in Ukraine. They are just 80 atoms thick on their cutting edge – around 1/10,000th or 5,000 times thinner the width of a hair and far sharper than any of common blades on the market. Just 99 Zafirro Iridiums will be made by American manufacturer Bright Light Ventures. The company claims the sapphire blades will stay sharp for about a year and offer complimentary cleaning and re-sharpening for an entire decade. A spokesman said: ‘Each Zafirro Iridium is custom made from the strongest, purest, and most durable materials available anywhere. Daily Mail

Hackers bring down Al Qaeda website

Hackers have shut down Al Qaeda’s communication network, crippling the group’s ability to send messages and videos around the world using the internet. After terrorising US and UK government and intelligence networks in recent weeks, the computer activists finally appear to have switched tactics, now targeting the major enemy of the West. ‘Al Qaeda’s online communications have been temporarily crippled, and it does not have a single trusted distribution channel available on the Internet,’ Evan Kohlmann, of Flashpoint Global Partners, which monitors the group’s communications, announced. The attack on Al Qaeda’s network was carried out in the last few days and was ‘well coordinated and involved the use of an unusual cocktail of relatively sophisticated techniques,’ Kohlmann told MSNBC. ‘My guess is that it will take them at least several days more to repair the damage and get their network up and functioning again.’ This is the second time the group has been subject to large scale online infiltration in just over a year.

She’ll never forgive him for that! President Obama forgets daughter Malia’s age… TWICE

It is a mistake that will get any father in the dog house with his daughter – even if he is the President. In a news conference on Wednesday, President Barack Obama twice referred to his oldest daughter, Malia, as being 13 years old, even though she is just 12. And while it is unlikely to be the worst error of judgement he commits during his time in the White House, it may well be the one he gets the most grief about at home. Given the speed with which Malia has grown of late, perhaps his mistake is not particularly surprising. Her birthday is also rapidly approaching – Malia turns 13 on July 4 – so the President may just have been thinking ahead.

Nike Sold 500,000 LeBron Shoes Last Year

LeBron James may be the most vilified player in the NBA, but that didn’t stop Nike from selling a boatload of LeBron-branded shoes last season. Yesterday Darren Rovell of CNBC tweeted, “Nike says it sold more than 500,000 pairs of LeBron shoes this year. So much for James’ tumultuous first year with the Miami Heat irreparably damaging his brand. All those shoes Nike sold underscore the strength of James’ brand. Despite turning much of America against him after his controversial Decision to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, James remains a endorsement titan. In April, the NBA announced James’ Heat jersey was the top seller at NBAStore.com for the 2010-2011 season. A month later, James rose to the 10th spot in Forbes’ “Celebrity 100″ ranking, the highest position on the list of any basketball player and second only to Tiger Woods among athletes. NBC Miami

Justin Timberlake Part-Owner in MySpace Deal

Six years ago, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation bought MySpace at the top of its game for $580 million. On Wednesday, News Corp. dumped its stake in the struggling social network for a bargain basement $35 million, The Wall Street Journal reported. Ad-targeting firm Specific Media is mostly putting up stock to buy the site, which has become an “afterthought” in a Facebook-dominated world, the Journal reported. But Specific Media may have a secret weapon: “Social Network” star Justin Timberlake. The pop star and actor is going in on the deal and will play “a major role in developing the creative direction and strategy for the company moving forward,” Specific Media told the AP.

Rhode Island Oks Civil Unions

Rhode Island just passed a bill that allows civil unions, a week after New York legalized same-sex marriage. The bill upsets gay marriage advocates—civil unions afford many of the same rights, though religious organizations will not recognize the unions. GLAAD representatives say they might not be able to make a medical decision for their same-sex partner if at a Catholic hospital. “It’s a permission slip to ignore legal obligations,” a GLAAD spokesperson told The New York Times. Lawmakers are seeing this as a compromise between gay marriage advocates and religious groups.

Gaddafi’s grannies: Now dictator resorts to training elderly female soldiers as civil war takes its toll on his forces

The Libyan government has unveiled its latest weapon to defend Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s regime from rebel fighters – women. As the NATO bombing campaign in the country entered its 100th day on Monday, loyalists to Gaddafi paraded their new female fighters in front of the world’s media.  The 500 women loyal to the embattled leader had just completed a programme to teach them how to fire weapons, at a base near Tripoli, according to the Guardian. The images show women getting to grips with a range of weapons as the government revealed it wanted women to become ‘killing machines’. Many of the women appeared to be elderly, whilst some were barely teenagers – but all were united in their love for the Libyan leader. The waiting journalists watched as the women showed off their new skills, including target practice and loading their rifles with ammunition. Some were pictured firing their guns defiantly into the air, showering the ground with dozens of bullets in celebration, watched closely by government minders. Hundreds were photographed waving greening flags and photos of the Libyan leader. Others were chanting their loyalty and wearing jewellery decorated with Gaddafi’s face. It is not clear where the women will be deployed, if at all. Perhaps it is hoped the female contingent will help take down the regime’s rebels who are not that much better prepared for combat either.  With a lack of heavy weapons, battlefield tactics and communications or even basic training, most rebel fighters don’t have functioning mobile phones, let alone radios.
