‘SNL’ wants Zuckerberg

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is being lured to have the last laugh on Oscar-nominated “The Social Network” by making a cameo on “Saturday Night Live” alongside Jesse Eisenberg, who plays him in the movie. While Eisenberg has signed up as guest host, sources said Zuckerberg — who previously complained he was misportrayed — has indicated he’s interested in an “SNL” appearance tomorrow “to show he has a sense of humor.” Others say it would be a coup for “Social Network” producer Scott Rudin, who’s “hellbent on getting the Best Picture Oscar. He’s doing everything to campaign. Getting Eisenberg to host ‘SNL’ in itself is a coup, but to get Zuckerberg up there next to him is an even bigger achievement.” An “SNL” rep declined to comment. A source said, “They add and throw things out right up to the broadcast, so nothing is guaranteed.” Zuckerberg’s rep didn’t get back to us. Read more:HuffPost

Marlins Get Bono’d, Move Home Games to Seattle

Forget the Seattle Mariners. How about the Seattle Marlins? The Florida Marlins, as they are called now, will be moving several home games from Sun Life Stadium to Seattle to accommodate Bono and U2. Yes, a music concert will be replacing baseball games. Soak that in for a moment. A Major League baseball team is moving home games for a bunch of rockers, and not only moving them out of the state. Moving them to the furthest possible destination imaginable. The June 24-26 home series between the Marlins and the Mariners was supposed to be South Florida’s chance to get a close up view of Ichiro Suzuki. U2 booked the stadium for June 29. But like any iconic rock star, Bono and company require days of time in advance to set up shop. So the choice between struggling baseball team or Irish megastars in leather pants was a no brainer for Sun Life officials. U2 fills the seats. Marlins fans can barely fill a plane. Now, fans have to hop a cross-country flight. This should be the last scheduling conflict in Marlins history, because the team is planning to move into their own new stadium in Little Havana on the old site of the Orange Bowl in 2012. Nelson Mandela discharged from hospital

Nelson Mandela was discharged from hospital Friday after a doctor said he had “responded very well” to treatment for a lung infection. Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, speaking at a press conference, repeated previous assurances, saying there was “no need for us to panic.” “There is no need for us to fear for Madiba’s (Mandela’s) health. He is in good health,” Motlanthe said. South Africa’s surgeon-general, Vijay Ramlakan, confirmed Mandela, 92, had undergone “a few specialist investigations” after being admitted to hospital earlier this week. He said the tests were considered “routine” for a patient with Mandela’s profile. “He recently developed an acute respiratory infection for which he received treatment and he’s responded very well,” Ramlakan said. The doctor said Mandela was “stable” and “will be monitored closely.” He told the press conference that Mandela would be released from hospital and cared for at home and minutes later it was confirmed he had been discharged. Don’t wait too long for a baby: Women are SIX times more likely to suffer from fertility problems when 35 than at 25

Doctors have issued a stark warning to couples not to leave it too late to try for a baby. With more and more women pursuing careers, they and their partners are leaving parenthood to at least their late thirties. But women aged 35 are six times more likely to have problems conceiving compared to those ten years younger, warns a major study from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. The report says older parents are making it harder for themselves to have children – and increasing the likelihood of serious medical complications for both mother and baby. By the age of 40, a woman is more likely to have a miscarriage than give birth. Men’s fertility also declines rapidly from the age of 25 and the doctors estimate that the average 40-year-old takes two years to get his partner pregnant – even if she is in her twenties. The report is a clear and authoritative wake-up call on the dangers of late parenthood. However, increasing numbers of couples are doing just that without properly understanding the consequences – and the risks. Read more: MailOnline

Dead dog entombed in block of ICE dumped on man’s front lawn

Canadian authorities have launched an animal cruelty investigation after a dog was discovered encased inside a block of ice on a man’s front lawn. The dead dog was discovered by the homeowner on January 15 – and he has told authorities he did not know the black border collie and has no idea how the block of ice came to arrive on his property. Marcie Moriarty, a spokeswoman from the British Columbia animal protection society, said: ‘It’s a bizarre and very upsetting case. ‘Inside the block of ice, which looks to have been made from a large rubber bin, was the frozen corpse of a medium-sized black dog.’ Miss Moriaty told the Vancouver Sun that initial investigations suggested the animal was dead before it was placed in the ice. ‘That’s the only salvation,’ she said. ‘It had puncture wounds consistent with being in a dog fight. ‘I thought I’d seen everything but when I opened the file I was blown away. It’s so disturbing. Anyone who would do something so sick, I’m concerned if they have other animals in their custody.’ The Dawnson Creek houseowner discovered the dead animal on January 15. He does not have any pets and is completely baffled why the dog was left on his lawn. Read more: MailOnline
