Bill Clinton is determined to keep off the 15 pounds he lost for daughter Chelsea‘s wedding. The former president was spotted eating healthily at Babette’s in East Hampton last week. An onlooker reports, “He was sitting in a corner banquette, eating a veggie burger and a mountain of vegetables. He was with Hillary, who had a falafel plate, and her mother, Dorothy Rodham, who ate French toast. Hillary kept her sunglasses on throughout the meal, and a security guard stood outside the bathroom near their table.”(NYPost)

Emmy’s Attempts at Interactivity Fall Flat

Few places in broadcasting are more likely to exhibit an awkward relationship with social media than award shows. They have all tried various gimmicks, and those trotted out Sunday night by the Emmys fell flat. There was reason to have hoped for better this time. Hosting was Jimmy Fallon, an avid Twitter user with nearly 2.8 million followers and whose “Late Night” show has successfully embraced social media. Award shows, too, have become thoroughly aware of the importance of social media. Ratings for award shows in the past year — the Oscars, the Grammys, the Golden Globes — have been up, and some have attributed the boost in viewership to the Internet. Many viewers follow the chatter online while watching the broadcast. But while the initial reviews for the 62nd annual Emmy Awards have been mostly positive, the low point, some say, was the clunky insertion of Twitter to the NBC broadcast. Fallon gathered submissions from Twitter for introductions to Emmy presenters like Stephen Colbert and Jon Hamm.(abcNews)

Madonna’s adopted Malawian daughter Mercy won’t meet man who claims to be father

Madonna’s adopted Malawian daughter won’t be meeting the man who claims to be her dad. James Kambewa, 26, was pressing for a meeting with the 4-year-old he says is his daughter – a claim the pop star disputes. “The extended family members had no knowledge of a father. The village leadership had no knowledge of a father … the mother was raped and left,” Madonna’s spokeswoman Barbara Charone told the Sunday Times, a South African paper. Madonna, 52, adopted Mercy last year from an Malawi orphanage after the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned a lower court. She is Madonna’s second adopted Malawian child. Mercy was born in January 2006 to a 14-year-old mother who died days after giving birth. Kambewa, who works as a waiter in Durban, initially vowed to fight the adoption, but told the Sunday Times this month that he was happy the star was looking after Mercy.(NYDailyNews)

Leonardo DiCaprio ‘attacker’ to face trial

A woman accused of attacking Leonardo DiCaprio with a broken bottle at a Hollywood party in 2005 has been ordered to stand trial in Los Angeles. Aretha Wilson, 40, faces one count of assault with a deadly weapon. Her lawyer said he expected the case to begin within 60 days. DiCaprio required a dozen stitches to his face and neck after the party. The judge, who saw photographs of the star’s injuries, said he did not consider them “trivial or moderate”. The photographs, showing cuts to the actor’s ear and neck, have not been made public. The star of Titanic and Inception was not in court for the hearing. Ms Wilson has remained in jail since pleading not guilty to the charge earlier this month after failing to secure bail of $150,000. She had previously been ordered not to contact or come within 500 yards of DiCaprio. Ms Wilson could face up to seven years in prison if convicted. She is accused of sneaking into a party hosted by Paris Hilton’s former boyfriend, Rick Salomon. According to police, she mistook DiCaprio for a former boyfriend and attacked him with a bottle. DiCaprio later filed a formal criminal complaint and a warrant was issued for Ms Wilson’s arrest. Ms Wilson fled to Canada afterwards and had to be extradited to the US last month to face charges. Her next scheduled appearance in court is on 9 September.(BBC)

Officer, that’s not me! Mistaken ID jails pastor

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP)— A series of unfortunate coincidences led to a case of mistaken identity that put a Louisiana minister behind bars for nearly eight hours. Gregory Jones, pastor at Eden Worship Center, was pulled over for speeding and arrested as a man wanted for violating parole in Texas. The minister not only had the same name as the wanted man, but the same birthdate  and a Texas driver’s license. So he wound up handcuffed and taken to a Shreveport jail. Jones said deputies treated him well and assured him they were checking his claims. A photograph and fingerprint check eventually confirmed he wasn’t the wanted man. Caddo Lt. Don Gibbs said the department was sorry for Jones’ inconvenience but committed to ensuring wanted criminals don’t accidentally go free.
